Texas Tourism Foundation: Julie Chase Scholarship

The Texas Tourism Foundation was founded to support college students planning to go into the Texas Travel Industry by providing scholarships and educational opportunities.


Julie Chase Scholarship
Julie Chase was an iconic and legendary leader in the Texas travel industry who earned her Bachelor of Arts in Communication and Media Studies from her cherished Texas Tech University. Throughout her distinguished career, Julie notably served as the Director of Texas Tourism in the Office of Governor Rick Perry and later spearheaded marketing efforts as the Senior Vice President and Chief Marketing Officer at Visit Austin.

The Julie Chase Scholarship will have a primary focus on professional development for women that are (college) students studying in a hospitality related field at a Texas University/College/Institution of advanced learning/credentialing.

The scholarship recipient will receive an award up to $3,000 which will be paid directly to the Texas University/College/Institution and applied to tuition. In addition, all scholarship recipients will have access to an established executive within the industry for individual mentoring.
Scholarship Requirements
  • Must be an Aspiring College Student Majoring in a Hospitality Related Field
  • Must have a GPA of 3.0 or higher
  • Must provide an official transcript from high school or college (most current semester available)
  • Provide current resume
  • Provide two letters of support from a leader within the Texas Travel Industry or Texas High School Teacher or University/College Professor
  • Must provide an essay on the following: The travel and tourism industry is a dynamic and ever-evolving field that impacts millions of people worldwide. As an aspiring professional, you will have the opportunity to shape experiences, create memories, and contribute to the global economy. In an essay, describe your long-term career goals and tell us what it means to you to be a woman in travel and tourism. We also ask you to illustrate how this scholarship and your education will help you to reach your career goals? The essay must be at least 500 words and no more than 1000 words.
