Austin, TX (May 21, 2025) — The Texas Travel Alliance (TTA) proudly announces the successful passage and signing into law of Senate Bill 1119, a landmark piece of legislation that provides limited liability protections for waterparks across the state. This bill, championed by Senator Bryan Hughes in the Senate and supported by a companion bill in the House authored by Representative Caroline Harris Davila, marks a significant step forward in supporting small businesses in Texas. SB 1119 creates Chapter 75D of the Texas Civil Practice and Remedies Code, which limits the liability of waterpark operators for injuries sustained by participants during waterpark activities—provided that proper warning signage is posted. The law ensures that waterpark entities are protected from certain frivolous legal claims while still holding them accountable for negligence or unsafe conditions. “This legislation is a win for Texas tourism and for the families who enjoy our state’s incredible waterparks,” said Erika Boyd, President and CEO of the Texas Travel Alliance. “We are deeply grateful to Senator Hughes and Representative Harris Davila for their leadership and commitment to supporting our industry. And we especially thank Governor Greg Abbott for his support and for signing SB 1119 into law today. His recognition of the importance of tourism to the Texas economy is invaluable.” The Texas Travel Alliance represents a wide range of travel and tourism businesses across the state, including many of Texas’s most beloved waterparks. SB 1119 ensures these businesses can continue to operate with confidence while maintaining high safety standards for guests. |
