Texas Travel Alliance Hosts Successful Unity Dinner Celebrating Industry Leaders and Legislative Champions

Austin, TX: May 2026 - The Texas Travel Alliance (TTA) welcomed industry leaders, policymakers, and stakeholders from across the state to its annual Texas Travel Industry Unity Dinner on April 29, celebrating the strength and resilience of Texas tourism.

A highlight of the evening was an engaging keynote fireside chat with Jerry Jones, owner, president, and general manager of the Dallas Cowboys. Jones shared candid insights on leadership, business innovation, and the powerful role tourism and major events play in strengthening Texas communities and driving economic impact.

The event also recognized four outstanding members of the Texas Legislature with Legislative Champion Awards for their leadership and support of the travel and tourism industry during the 89th Texas Legislative Session. Honorees included Sen. Donna Campbell, Sen. Bryan Hughes, Rep. Caroline Harris Davila, and Rep. Carrie Isaac. Each was commended for their dedication to policies that enhance tourism growth and support local businesses across the state.

In addition, Bob Jameson, president and CEO of Visit Fort Worth, was honored with the prestigious Spirit of Texas Award. The award recognizes leaders who embody the resilience, innovation, and collaborative spirit that define the Texas travel and tourism industry. This year’s award celebrates Jameson’s remarkable career, exceptional work ethic, and steadfast dedication to strengthening Fort Worth’s tourism economy and elevating the city’s profile as a premier destination for visitors from around the world.

Brad’s contributions to the travel and tourism industry extend far beyond the Caverns. A longtime advocate for Texas tourism, he has served on the Texas Travel Alliance board for over two decades, including as Chair in 2008. He has led Travel PAC initiatives, testified at the Capitol, mentored emerging professionals, and fostered collaboration across the industry. His leadership helped shape a new era for TTA - one grounded in innovation, unity, and purpose.

Nationally, Brad has chaired the National Caves Association and served on the U.S. Travel Association’s National Council of Attractions. Through the Clara Heidemann Wuest Family Scholarship at Texas A&M, he continues to invest in the future of tourism by supporting students pursuing careers in the field.

HB 1130, authored by Representative Carrie Isaac, and the Senate companion SB 847, authored by Senator Donna Campbell, establish Chapter 75C of the Texas Civil Practice and Remedies Code. This chapter limits the civil liability of cavern entities—businesses that own or operate natural caverns open to the public for recreational or educational purposes—when proper safety signage is posted. The law protects cavern operators from frivolous lawsuits related to inherent risks of cavern activities, while still holding them accountable for negligence or intentional harm.

The evening featured a keynote address by Adam Sacks, President of Tourism Economics, who shared valuable insights on the economic trends and future outlook of the travel industry. His expertise provided attendees with a deeper understanding of the challenges and opportunities that lie ahead.

Travel and Tourism employs over 1.3 million Texans working to make Travel and Tourism the third largest export industry in Texas. Travelers to Texas generated $193.8 billion in economic impact to the Texas economy, creating over $9 billion in state and local tax revenues, offsetting the individual tax burdens of Texans by more than $836 per household.

Kayla Simpson Gostnell currently serves as the Tourism Manager for Visit Marble Falls, where she has been instrumental in establishing the first tourism partnership program and enhancing community engagement at the local visitor center. Her innovative approach and dedication have significantly boosted tourism in Marble Falls.

Before her tenure in Marble Falls, Kayla was a founding member of the Arlington Sports Commission in Arlington, Texas. In this role, she played a pivotal part in organizing major events, including the NFL Draft, E-Sports Awards, National Finals Rodeo, and Special Olympics. Her career in tourism began with an internship at Visit Lubbock, which led to her first full-time position at Visit Fort Worth.

Kayla is actively involved in her community, serving on the Marble Falls Highland Lakes Area Chamber of Commerce Education & Ambassador Committees and the Marble Falls ISD Career & Technical Education Advisory Board. A native of Johnson City, TX, Kayla graduated from Johnson City High School in 2007. She earned her undergraduate degree in Restaurant Hotel Institutional Management from Texas Tech University in 2011 and completed her MBA at Murray State University in 2015. Kayla and her husband, Gary, enjoy raising their two children, Cooper and Amelia, on her family ranch in Johnson City.

Daniel J. Decker was known for always being willing to lend a hand, providing sage advice, and mentoring so many in the travel industry. The Daniel J. Decker Scholarship fund continues Dan's legacy by providing scholarships to travel industry professionals to advance their careers.

Davis Phillips has been a driving force in the Texas tourism industry, leading Phillips Entertainment, Inc. to operate a variety of successful attractions in San Antonio, including Ripley’s Haunted Adventure, Guinness World Records Museum, Tomb Rider 3D Adventure Ride and Arcade, and two Extreme Escape locations. His company also manages the Amazing Mirror Maze and Laser Challenge, the Buckhorn Saloon and Texas Ranger Museum, and the popular Be Kind & Rewind immersive bar experience.

Growing up in the Texas travel and tourism industry, Davis was inspired by his grandfather, Gene Phillips, and his father, Bill Phillips. He began his career at the age of 11, working at the Wax Museum of the Southwest in Grand Prairie, Texas. Over the years, Davis has held various roles, including General Manager of Ripley’s Believe It or Not and Wax Museum, and later, the original Ripley’s Believe It or Not Museum in St. Augustine, Florida.

Since founding Phillips Entertainment, Inc. in 2001, Davis has grown the company from one business with 20 employees to six businesses in five locations with 150 employees. His contributions to the industry include forming the first-ever Attractions Committee in San Antonio, serving on the board of directors of the San Antonio Visitor Alliance (SAVA), and holding leadership roles in various tourism organizations, including the board of directors for the Texas Travel Alliance.

In addition to his professional accomplishments, Davis is actively involved in his community and industry. He has served on numerous boards and committees, including the San Antonio Hotel and Lodging Association, the San Antonio Convention and Visitors Commission, and the former Governor’s Tourism Advisory Committee. Under his leadership, Phillips Entertainment was awarded the Heritage Award by the Texas Travel Alliance in 2021.

Josie Lewis, a passionate sales professional with over a decade of experience, has been instrumental in expanding the group sales strategy for The Woodlands. Her innovative programs, such as the “Rest Well” medical hotel rate program and the “Show Your Badge” attendee discount program, have significantly increased the destination’s visibility and appeal. Josie’s leadership has also been pivotal in securing major events like the 2019 Rendezvous South tradeshow, the 2023 Connect Texas tradeshow, and the 2024 Texas Society of Association Executives (TSAE) New Ideas Conference.

Josie’s career in tourism began in Penang, Malaysia, where she witnessed firsthand the transformative impact of tourism on a destination. After earning a degree in Hotel and Restaurant Management from the Conrad N. Hilton College of Global Hospitality Leadership at the University of Houston, she transitioned from hotel operations to sales, eventually joining Visit The Woodlands. Her contributions include increasing group tradeshow presence, implementing standardized follow-up procedures, and developing key sales programs that have enhanced the destination’s profile.

In addition to her professional achievements, Josie is actively involved in the industry, serving on the Meeting Professionals International (MPI) Houston Area Chapter Board of Directors as Vice President of Finance. She has also been recognized with the Texas Trailblazer Award and has led numerous initiatives to support the tourism sector’s recovery and growth.

Outside of her professional life, Josie enjoys gardening, reading, and spending quality time with her family, including her 8-year-old son, Jackson, who inspires her in all aspects of her life.

Patricia Moore’s journey into the travel and tourism industry is a testament to resilience and passion. In the mid-1970s, she and her partner introduced the concept of hospice care to Texas, a challenging endeavor given her non-healthcare background. Seeking a new path, Patricia transitioned to the hospitality industry, joining the opening team of the Dallas Anatole hotel in 1979. By 1984, she had risen to Reservations Manager, overseeing the hotel’s expansion and supporting the Sales and Conventions Department.

“Patricia Moore’s dedication and indominable spirit have left an indelible mark on the Texas travel and tourism industry,” said Erika Boyd, President & CEO of the Texas Travel Alliance. “Her tireless efforts to promote and enhance the Cowboy Capital of the World, Bandera, and her leadership in various tourism initiatives have set a high standard for excellence. After the 1984 Republican Convention, Patricia moved to Tucson to help open the Loews Ventana Canyon Resort as Front Office Manager. In 1990, she returned to Texas, opening a B&B in Bandera and later managing the Bandera Chamber and the Bandera Convention & Visitors Bureau. She eventually led the independent Bandera County Convention Bureau, championing Bandera through initiatives like Bandera on the Road, major fairs, state museum partnerships, and collaborations across Texas.

For over 30 years, Patricia has been a steadfast advocate for Bandera, earning the Gene Phillips Hospitality Award in 2011 for her dedication and service. Her efforts have significantly contributed to the recognition and growth of Bandera as the Cowboy Capital of the World.

Patricia’s journey from introducing hospice care to becoming a pivotal figure in Texas tourism exemplifies her resilience and passion for making a positive impact. Her legacy continues to inspire those in the travel and tourism industry.
